OK so you might be reading this in your pj’s or comfy joggers, and yes we’ve accumulated A LOT of loungewear over this last couple of months; but what has lockdown done to us? So what now? Do we put our purchases down to isolation necessities, momentary madness or do we try to incorporate these new items into our normal everyday wear?
For some, this will be easy. In fact Natural Style Personalities will have lots of easy-wear comfortable pieces in their wardrobe already. For others such as Romantics, elasticated waist bands, hoodies and relaxed t-shirts, will no doubt be as alien as a flip flop in Antartica.
But don’t reach for the charity bag just yet; indeed we’re sure charity shops will be inundated with cast-offs for a few months to come. But let’s try to be a bit more sustainable and work these pieces into our wardrobe, sound good?.
City Chics and Dramatics could try wearing a hoodie underneath a smart blazer for an effortlessly chic, preppy outfit. There is nothing more classy than great jeans, a sweater and a blazer – so give it a go! Try freshly washed jogging bottoms (obvs not tatty holey ones!) with a smart blouse and heels or box-fresh white trainers
A sweatshirt can work really well over a summer floral maxi dress, giving the illusion of a skirt, and providing an extra layer on cooler days, something Creatives no doubt already do, but may appeal to Romantics too (think Alexa Chung or Olivia Palermo styling).
Try a t-shirt with a skirt, tucked in, semi-tucked or un-tucked. The choice really depends on your body shape and the most flattering way to wear this combination. Take a great evening skirt at first glance it may appear to be more suited to occasion wear, but it could work really well with a white t-shirt and trainers. Do you have anything similar in your ‘saving for best’ wardrobe? Now is the time to get it all out and wear it – shop your wardrobe and have a play. When did we stop enjoying playing dress up?
You can play around with accessories to create different looks. Add a scarf to a sweatshirt in one of your best colours. Don’t be afraid to team casual items with your favourite necklaces, and bracelet stacks. Ditch the trainers (or slippers!) and instead wear flat mules or strappy sandals with your loungewear.
If you’re really struggling to incorporate some pieces into your wardrobe, why not set up a Style Zoom Call with me and I will help you create some new exciting outfits without even spending a pound! Once you know you want to keep and what you want to lose then yes donate it to friends or family, charity shops or schools or even better sell it. Tip – Sell your more expensive pieces on Ebay or Depop as you will get a much higher price.
But for now, if your anything like me you might need to keep the elasticated waist bands, sweatshirts at the front of your wardrobe until you can get back to the gym. But seriously its easy to make an effort everyday even during lockdown, you dont have to feel scruffy or unkept just stick to a few simple style rules. But next time you think about shopping why not start to think about post-lockdown? We are not going to be in this for much longer so step away from that loungewear…….
