It’s fair to say I used to be an impulse buyer….
It’s easy to fall into this trap. Buying something gives instant gratification. It boosts your mood and makes you feel good. I would be having a down day, or going somewhere new that weekend and feel the need to go and buy something new. I would never consider looking in my wardrobe for what I already had or buy something to pair with an existing item.
For me it was the quick thrill, seeing something, falling in love with it (with know thought process or question) and buying it! Coming home from a shopping trip with lots of bags made me happy – simple 🙂 The reality most of these items wouldn’t get worn, or I would struggle with how to wear them – or worst still they didn’t even suit me! An investment buy was something wasn’t even on my radar..
I hear this from my clients – they buy similar items over and over again, or they buy something because they like the colour and it looks good on the mannequin.
But once its home they realise that they can’t create any outfits with their new purchase. They don’t know how to style it. They’re not sure if the colour is right or if it’s a flattering fit. This leaves you feeling deflated, confused and overwhelmed.
So, the next time you feel an urge to buy something on a whim, ask yourself these questions.
Is it good for your shape?
Is it flattering?
Is the colour right?
Does it suit your skintone?
Do you feel good in it?
Can you create at least 3 outfits with this?
Does it suit your lifestyle?
Can you afford it, and do you need it? And if it’s in the sale, are you buying it just because it’s cheap?
An Image consultation will equip you with the knowledge and skills to shop with confidence. It will mean an end to shopping mistakes, and you’ll become a more conscious shopper, actually saving you money in the long run!
REMEMBER THIS: the cost of a styling session = the cost of an unworn purchase that you’ve bought on a whim!
Now be strong – Good Luck!
